The joinery is inside the yard

Not a supplier: thirty metres from the hull. When a measurement is wrong, someone walks over instead of telephoning.

The point

Timber on a boat moves

Humidity, sun and the working of the hull pull at every joint. Domestic furniture lasts two seasons afloat.

So the furniture is built with joints that are allowed to move: mechanical fixings, calculated tolerances, and everything demountable.

And so the timber sits in the yard acclimatising for at least four weeks before anyone touches it. That is time nobody ever sees on an invoice, and it decides what the boat is like in ten years.

What leaves the workshop

From the bulkhead to the towel rail

A hand plane and shavings on the joiner’s bench.
The saloon settee with cushions and a window onto the water.
The timber and brass ship’s wheel.

Everything made of wood aboard is made here, from the same drawing and the same log. That is why the interiors line up.

  • Bulkheads, headlinings and panelling
  • Furniture, galleys and heads to measure
  • Teak decks, caulking and handrails
  • Restoration of original joinery on classic boats

How it is done

Four stages, for every piece

  1. 01

    Survey

Aboard, with templates. Build drawings are never enough: the real hull is a different thing.

    1 – 3 days

  2. 02

    Drawing

Every piece drawn with its tolerances. Approved before anything is cut.

    1 – 2 weeks

  3. 03

    Building

In the workshop, dry-assembled complete before any finish goes on.

    3 – 8 weeks

  4. 04

    Fitting

Aboard, with the last adjustment done by hand. That part cannot be scheduled.

    1 – 2 weeks

We also work for other yards

01

Fit-out batches

Repeat runs to order: same timber, same tolerances, delivered crated and numbered.

To specification

02

Single pieces

Handrails, hatches, helm stations. From a template or from your drawing.

2 – 6 weeks

03

Restoration

Original joinery on classic boats, salvaging the original timber where it can be saved.

Questions

About interiors

Which timbers do you use?

Eleven are held in stock, from mahogany to teak to bleached oak. Anything outside stock adds four to six weeks, which is the acclimatisation time.

Do you do the leatherwork too?

Leather goes to a workshop in Naples we have used for twenty years. The drawing and the fitting stay with us.

Can we see a sample first?

Yes, and it is worth it: a thirty-centimetre sample settles in ten minutes what words will not settle in a month.

Even a hand sketch with rough dimensions is enough to tell whether the piece is in our range.
