The yard

Fifty-four years on the same quay

Three generations, a shed that has grown twice, and the same idea: a boat is built where she is launched.

Who

Thirty-four people, almost all on the floor

The office is four of them. The other thirty are in the shed, and so are the owners.

Marco Pascucci runs the technical side and the builds in progress. Elena Pascucci holds the relationship with owners from the first meeting to handover. Salvatore Esposito has been master shipwright since 1989 and has had his hands on seventy of the hundred and eighteen hulls launched.

There is no sales network. Whoever calls speaks to whoever builds, and in season that makes us slower to answer.

The rules

Four things we don’t change

Not values: decisions taken once, that cost money every year.

  • One new boat per team at a time, never two
  • No structural work leaves the yard
  • The weight estimate is signed together, before the contract
  • If it is our mistake, it gets redone and nobody argues about who pays

My grandfather said a boat is finished when you no longer feel like touching her. In fifty years that has never happened.

Visits

The shed is open by appointment

Even without a project in mind. An hour among open hulls explains more than a catalogue.
